Spring is here, and that means it’s time to reconnect with the outdoors . Here are some tips on how to go green with your lawn care so that you can help it look its best – while being kind to the environment.
First of all, purchase an organic lawn fertilizer, which poses no risk to humans, pets and wildlife, or the environment because it is free of harsh chemicals contained in regular lawn fertilizer.
After you mow, make sure you recycle the lawn clippings. Lawn clippings are a valuable source of nutrients for your soil, so they shouldn’t be wasted. A good lawn mower will automatically return lawn clippings to the turf to decompose.
Make sure your lawn mower’s blades stay sharp. A dull blade rips and tears at the roots of your lawn, and cutting grass too short weakens it and makes it more susceptible to disease. Ripped and shredded patches also allow moisture to escape more quickly from the soil.
Finally, make sure you water smart. Give your organic liquid fertilizer lawn a deep watering once or twice a week (soak the grass in about an inch of water throughout). Watering daily for about 15 minutes only contributes to evaporation.
